About Me

My path to becoming a registered psychotherapist has been one of purposeful evolution. After a fulfilling career spanning over two decades as an internationally recognized humanitarian and social photojournalist, where I was inspired by the resilience of the human spirit in places like Cambodia, Haiti, Peru, and Roatan, I returned to university to pursue a Master's in Psychology, graduating in 2019, with the motivation to bring awareness and knowledge of the needs and issues of the people that have been forgotten or misunderstood.

Throughout my career in photojournalism, my approach has always been person centered, valuing the uniqueness and inherent dignity of each individual to showcase the human spirit behind the image. This philosophy seamlessly transitioned into my work as a psychotherapist. I firmly believe that the client is the expert of their own life and should be empowered to make their own decisions. It is important as a therapist to recognize that unique experiences and needs of each person makes them the expert of their life, and our role as therapists is to bring our perspective and knowledge to assist and their healing and their self-growth journey.

My therapy approach style aims to be holistic and creative, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit. The goal of holistic and creative therapy is to work with the client to gain a greater understanding of themselves, which can involve utilizing art, music, and movement to help individuals discover their inner and unique qualities to tap and grow into their inner strengths and resources. By honouring and celebrating your journey, we foster increased self-esteem and self-confidence.

I use art music movement to help individuals to discover their inner and unique qualities and find their own personal resources to grow

I earned my bachelor of Honours in drama at the University of Windsor. Next I spent over 20 years as a humanitarian and social photojournalist and representing Canada in the world art games.  I documented stories through my career to honour the human spirit. Capturing sensitive stories of amazing people that have endured extraordinary and sad events has trained me to bring cultural sensitivity and a non-judgmental approach to my counseling practice. I celebrate each client's resilience as they navigate their path from survival to thriving.

Specializing in helping individuals and families develop problem-solving skills and navigate their emotions, I recognize the invaluable nature of learning to process emotions and self-regulate, particularly during periods of profound disappointment or loss. I provide guidance in learning coping strategies, identifying, and managing triggers, and cultivating healthy habits to promote self-love and well-being. My therapeutic approach emphasizes a holistic and creative perspective on mental health. Together, we work collaboratively to foster balance and harmony in your life.

My professional journey has afforded me the opportunity to work with diverse populations, including high-risk youth within the youth justice system and victims of human trafficking. I have provided support to individuals grappling with significant trauma, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Additionally, I have worked extensively with those diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism, guiding them in acquiring essential life skills and collaborating closely with their families. From facilitating therapy in group home settings to assisting youth struggling with body dysmorphia, I have gained invaluable insights into the complex dynamics of mental health.
