About Me
I had chronic pain since I can remember… From a young age. Hot ‘spikes’ in my neck and shoulders, belly and digestive issues. Aches. Anxiety. As an otherwise healthy adult, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and thoracic outlet syndrome, osteopenia, and arthritis. Eventually, food, allergies, and celiac disease were found and blamed. Surgeries were suggested, as was pain medication and avoidance of many things, food and movement included.
Yoga was something I had tried and had experienced some results from. However, although I was strong, I was not naturally flexible and, like many, I believed that made me a failure at yoga. I disliked the practice because I felt inadequate and because I was taught to push through…the pain and the limitations. I didn’t breathe naturally “well” or “correctly”. Yet, I somehow felt better after practicing.
After an on-again, off-again practice over several years, I decided to try it again. This time, however, I looked for Yoga Teacher Training. Not because I had aspirations to teach but because I wanted to dive in and understand WHY I didn’t “do” yoga the way some other people did or could.
Nearing the end of my yoga teacher training, we studied with a certain anatomy-based yoga trainer. This training was mind-blowing and eye-opening. I finally saw why Yoga wasn’t one-size-fits-all. How the lengths of our bones and the ratios of one body part to another body part allow and limit certain movements and shapes, how our long-held compensatory patterns and our personal beliefs and experiences affect how we move, feel, and what we can do.
This inspired me…motivated me…., and excited me to want to learn more about the mechanics of yoga and, eventually, to share it with as many people as I could.
After six months of learning and personally practicing a therapeutic approach to yoga and movement, my symptoms were mostly eradicated and my celiac symptoms became minimal and manageable. I began to sleep through the night, my mind became clear, anxiety was no longer an issue and my life-long physical pain and inflammation were gone.
Finding therapeutic yoga was felt nothing short of miraculous… My individual needs were addressed and pain was reduced or eliminated… What I thought was forever and normal was indeed neither. The learning and the yoga therapy journey continues for me, and the more I pair the tools of movement with the healing power of energy and sound, the more profound the healing results that I see. This is a profound gift that I am inspired to share….to help people….and show them they do not have to acquiesce to living in pain.
I excel at seeing the body as a whole… uncovering compensation patterns that are often not observed or noticed by other practitioners/modalities and, when combined, can lead to pain or limitations that may not have been solved with previous treatment.… by looking not just at the injured or painful spot. This allows me to effectively target the injury and create healing strategies that can help the client long-term. And I guide and teach these methods to the client, as well as help them connect with their own sense of self….physically, emotionally, spiritually so that they can recognize signals, symptoms, triggers in their body and address them prior to pain settling back in.
I’m compassionate and sensitive to the emotional aspects of injury and trauma and how that can relate to the physical body, and I encourage people to accept their body as it is in the moment and build their way back to recovery, whatever that looks like for them. I have an excellent set of “tools”… knowledge and experience and training… which can be combined to enable powerful healing and results.
I’ve been developing and establishing relationships with clients for over 30 years. I’ve still got some of the same clients from over 30 years ago! It comes easily and naturally to me because I genuinely care. I want the best for people. I want people to feel good, healthy, and happy. Do well. Succeed. Reach their goals. Heal. Be heard and understood. I am able to listen. Hear what is often unheard of. See the person and their energy and their heart and intentions.
There is no judgment. There is no pressure. I offer support and encouragement. I see the positive…what IS working and going well…..and what is possible. And I understand many of the struggles. And those that I’ve not experienced personally, I have respect and compassion for. I understand the ups and downs, highs, lows and in-betweens. I have personally experienced injuries, chronic long-term pain and mobility issues and limitations, and trauma. Everything I teach comes not only from training but also from personal experience and healing.
